The cover of Different Drummer is misleading as much as the name… this is no Afro-Jazz band from the 60s but a fantastic group from the North of Holland, fronted by G.W. Sok, the former text-writer/singer/poet from The Ex. The band, with focus on guitar, rumbling drums and strong brass & reeds, really takes you back to older line-ups of The Ex, with the cream of Dutch free jazzers like Han Bennink, Joost Buis and Ab Baars. Add to this the sharp, driven delivery by Sok, and you might get a better picture. Recommended!
