“test pattern is a system to convert any kind of data (text, sounds, photos and movies) into barcode patterns and binary patterns of 0s and 1s…. ”Commissioned by Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, “test pattern” is a new Ryoji Ikeda’s audiovisual project, consisting of an installation based on eight computer monitors which flicker with black and white images in a dark room. Signal patterns are converted using a software into eight barcode patterns and conveyed to 16 loudspeakers. The aim is to obtain a visitors’ response through perceptions related to a performance test of the devices.
