A true pop album Dutch style. And in Dutch language.. translating as “The Writing on the Wall” it is a collection of songs written by Niek Hilkmann and performed by his very own Quartet: Niek Hilkmann (guitar & vocals), Arie van Vliet (bass guitar), Ruud Hilkmann (keyboards) en Joris Frowein (drums).
Somehow this repertoire manages to create a pleasant little niche between mockery of old-fashioned popular singalongs, nostalgia and a completely honest love for straightforward pop songs about everyday topics. Here and there, a trace of Velvet Underground minimalism, thanks to the band members’ diverse experiences (Lewsberg, Rats on Rafts..)
