WORM Horspil - K7-3: Secluded Bronte – Dark August Variations
Three lovely Londoners (the Bohman Brothers and Richard Thomas) calling themselves Secluded Bronte landed in Rotterdam late summer 2014 to make a radio play for WORM’s Horspil series. And here it is: Dark August Variations. Parts of it remind me of Adam Bohman’s “Music & Words” as we hear spoken audio diaries weaved tbrough the whole piece (of almost an hour). We also hear tape manipulation, field recordings, amplified acoustic objects and analogue synths. The script was a poem composed of fragments from absurd adverts for luxury products, descriptions of wines, directions, texts appropriated from Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, dialogue from a horror movie and texts arrived at by OuLiPo-like algorithmic methods and collage. Guest appearances by Peter Fengler, Lukas Simonis, Daniela de Paulis and Bebe Beliz.
Great cover design by Studio Eyesberg, with a cassette tape mounted into a VHS box.
