Maguire/La Berge - Three Cities
Maguire and La Berge came together through their love of structures that slowly evolve through extended time. Detailed drones that color the perception of time and place. Phil Maguire plays analog synthesizers and Max patches. Anne La Berge plays flutes and electronics.
Phil Maguire is a composer, improviser and sound artist from the UK. Working with computers, synthesisers, tape equipment, Maguire produces music and sound works that explore emptiness and malfunction, of self and of machine. He runs verz, a tape label and concert series.
“Virtually impossible to second-guess what directions Maguire might wish to be taking us, yet while we’re here under this steel canopy it seems the most natural place on earth.”- The Sound Projector
Anne La Berge’s passion for the extremes in both composed and improvised music has led her to storytelling and sound art as her sources of musical inspiration. Her music gathers the elements on which her reputation is based: ferocious virtuosity, microtonal textures and melodies, and her unique array of extended flute techniques, all combined with interactive electronic processing and text.
“La Berge is a precursor of some of the important things contemporary composition has now come to mean.” The Wire
