Jacco Wanneer - Superstar
Also known as Jacco Weener, a recurring character in my catalogue (see here) and one of Rotterdam’s most eccentric artists. As great as he is in bands, left to his own devices in a studio full of vintage synths and drum machines, he apparently feels free to dismiss all music making conventions and actually sounds like his zine Jacco Weener Presents.
As each piece has a title, I expected them to sound more like songs, and Jacco is a great singer for sure, with a lovely vibrato in his high opera-like voice. Those who know him from Cantos Deus and Mowa, know he can also sound like a mad and slightly hysteric blues-man slash reverend. It’s all in here, together with lo-fi improvisations on synth keyboards, drum machines, or even percussion on non-resonating objects (his chest? his bottom?)
