DJ Balli + L’Allievo + MC Shell8bit - The 8 Bit Prometheus
“Ever took part in a low-resolution séance? All you need is a Game-Boy Classic equipped with LSDJ software, plug it via a Game-Boy link cable to retro devices such as Nintendo’s Advance and Color. Hold the retro devices tight to create a circle. PLING! The renown Game Boy startup sound and following the voice of MC Shell8bit telling the tale of this different Frankenstein, the 8 bit Prometheus one.”
The trio made this 17-track album in 2020 for the Slovakian label Urbsounds. The compositions are all titled “Séance No. ..”, numbering from 1 to 17. Underscoring MC Shell8bit’s narrating are the typically low-res sounds of old electronic games, resulting into something described by Neural magazine as a melting pot of circuit bending and rave culture influences. Nice edition with a booklet, as you can see.
Frankenstein in 8 Bit
DJ Balli, or Riccardo Balli, is also the author of a book called “Frankenstein, or the 8 Bit Prometheus”, an arcade version of the famous novel by Mary Shelley, a mediumistic session where he evokes the spirit of Giovanni Aldini (1762-1834), credited as the source of inspiration for the modern Prometheus.
