Bass Communion is an ambient / noise / experimental project of English musician Steven Wilson, best known for his lead role in the rock band Porcupine Tree. He selected these tracks from recordings made between 2014 and 2023. Very rarely are synthesisers used, most of the source material comes from recordings of things such as percussion, piano, guitar, choir, and a lot of old 78 records.

“The Itself Of Itself was selected from 10 years worth of recordings, the ones chosen being those that I felt added something a bit different to the catalogue. It’s probably the most noisy and experimental Bass Communion album, but perhaps also the most carefully constructed since I’ve been messing about with these tracks on and off for the best part of a decade. Most tracks incorporate ‘unwanted’ analogue artefacts such as tape hiss, wow and flutter, static noise, and sonic break-up. One of the other main sound sources is my trusty mellotron, but made to sound like it’s buried under layers of rust and dirt.” (Steven Wilson)
