Oli Freke - Synthesizer Evolution 3. Modern Classics

Third issue in an A6 format zine series by Oli Freke who in 2021 wrote the book “Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back)” and made fame with his amazingly beautiful, ultra-detailed drawings of synths. The illustrations celebrate the visual qualities of synthesizers – not only have they produced the sound of the future, but they have also looked like the future since the earliest days.

The synths in this book celebrate the vast range of sonic possibilities now available to musicians and producers. From analogue wonders to extraordinary digital creations, from tightly designed monosynths to open-ended polyphonic beasts, each one is more marvellous than the last! Some examples: the Access Virus T12 (2009), the Buchla Easel Command 208c (2020), the MicroKorg (2003),the MiniMoog Model D(2016)…
