Lars van der Miesen - P.L.A.N.E.T.A.R.T. – The History of Kees de Groot 1978-2004

Activist and media artist, rebel and organizer, punk and noisemaker, all of this is Kees de Groot (1956).

After completing his studies at the AKI Academy of Art & Design in Enschede in the late ’70s, De Groot became part of an artistic revolution that unfolded both within and beyond the borders of the Netherlands. No matter how far he roamed, his ties with Twente (the region in the east, bordering to Germany) remained strong. He organized events ranging from parties and festivals to exhibitions and performances in Hengelo and Enschede. De Groot played a crucial role in the development of Twente as a hub for digital and underground art. The internationally renowned art and technology festival GOGBOT has been the most famous example.

The PLANETART Archives 1978-2004 were organised in collaboration with researcher and philosopher Lars van der Miesen. An interactive website was created. The book, going into great detail, places the artistic evolution of de Groot against the background of global events.

Editors: Kees de Groot and Frank Morssinkhof. Introduction by Marga van Mechelen. Interview by Josephine Bosma. The book has a nice size, 21 x 30 cm, it has a hardcover and 248 pages.
