Debut album by an artist who has been called “Arnhem’s own musical misfit”. Her real name is Kate Donkor. She released the record herself, thereby launching her bytrecs label.
Oshunmare weaves a magical and fascinating soundworld with influences from West-African mythology (particularly the rainbow serpent Oxumaré), elements of triphop and a healthy dose of quirkiness mixed with melancholy. All in all it’s a song-based, multi-layered, very danceable affair, produced with the help of several instrumentalists.
The record is made of a beautiful transparent light blue marbled vinyl. Art prints and credits on separate inlay. 8 Tracks, around 36 minutes total playing time. Released 2023.
