This new album from experimental musician Niko Uské on the Mouse on Mars curated Sonig imprint is, for the most part, indescribably odd. Uské blends fragments of influence from across the musical spectrum, at times dipping its toes into world music (caught in a broken player, skipping along randomly), and at others (‘Tout Se Détache’) like a French café after midnight, with a dark undercurrent. The carnival feel of ‘Nico Et La Beriue’ gives the album a certain panache and charm which is at odds with any reference points we could possibly conjure up, something which always typifies this consistantly mental imprint.
