Art and research in collaboration. ISOE, an experiment. Can we talk about Europe without being Eurocentric ? How can we meet on an equal footing in an unequal world ? From a wide range of perspectives, this work approaches the question of the degree to which Europe is still a standard against which people in other parts of the world measure themselves. Europe as a role model seen from the eyes of the people in Africa, the Middle East and the former Ottoman Empire was the starting point of a research project. This publication brings together some of the material that was produced by researchers and artists in the course of four years, culminating in an art exhibition (in Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien in Berlin in 2013).
