Barnicle Bill Trio is Miguel Martinez altsax, Mark Haanstra acoustic bassguitar and John Engels drums and what began with occasional jamming in John’s (Engels) basement during the summer of 2009 was soon to become Barnicle Bill Trio. Despite their completely different backgrounds, the vibe amongst these three musicians clicked right away. John Engels is the personification of jazz tradition. He has played with such jazz icons as Chet Baker, Dizzy, Ben Webster, Stan Getz and many others.
