M.E.S.S.Y. and Friends - Anthology 1988-2013
M.E.S.S.Y (what’s in a name?) is a little known but talented vocalist, poet and musician from Terneuzen, in the south of The Netherlands near the Belgian border. Some might know the rich history of Hahamandad, an underground club for eccentric culture that held on in a region almost void of such movements. The names mentioned here are all closely related to this organisation.
The anthology collects recordings from the early days with ex-husband Amanda Man as Selfs Without Shells, over fruitful collaborations with network friends such as M.Nomized, Konstruktivists or Alain Neffe (Insane Music), to fragile but powerful compositions performed solo. It brings to mind the likes of Dead Can Dance, This Mortal Coil, but also the more experimental wave bands like DDAA, Plus Instruments, and Bene Gesserit.
