Various Authors - Ad Absurdum

Taking the Absurd as the point of rupture between art, society and observation opens up perspectives that reach well beyond the realm of art, and which lead to far-reaching questions.
The Absurd in art is a category that contradicts itself, one that subsumes an incredibly varied range of aesthetic and non-aesthetic experiences. The forms of expression and the registers within which the absurdity of life  are formulated today are polyglot and polymorphic.
This funny little book (only 12 by 8.5 cm, but almost 200 pages and a solid hardcover!) has more than 200 illustrations, mainly in colour featuring artists like Joseph Beuys, Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, Dorothee Golz, Séverine Hubard, Martin Kippenberger, René Magritte, Jonathan Meese, Bruce Nauman, Meret Oppenheim, Francis Picabia, Sigmar Polke, Man Ray, Dieter Roth, Kurt Schwitters. It was published on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Ad Absurdum — Energien des Absurden von der klassischen Moderne bis zur Gegenwart’, 2008, MARTa Herford.
Texts (in english and german) by Jan Hoet, Michael Kröger, Jürgen H. Meyer, Gerhard Schulze, Roland Nachtigäller, Lorenzo Benedetti and Achille Bonito Oliva.
