“I have to admit, in all candor, that I realized that there was really not an audience for my music. I can’t speak for contemporary music. I never had an audience, so I had nothing to lose. I’m beginning to gain an audience, so I really lost… How could I lose something I never had? I never had an audience. What did I have to lose? So the whole thing was done as an inner thing in terms of my own life, sitting and writing like an idiot, like a lunatic besides making a living. Being married, which is harder than making a living. And so for my own experience I didn’t give up anything.”

Bilingual (English/German) collection of lectures and talks by American composer Morton Feldman during the years 1985-87. They were collected during several visits by Feldman to the innovative music festival in Middelburg, capital of the Dutch province Zeeland. Two bands, paperback, in total 908 pages!!
