The music by Jürg Frey on this album is radical music and it is groundbreaking for us as a quartet. It is a challenge that must be accepted and demands an attitude to the music and to one’s own playing. This has triggered a reflection that has characterised our work as a string quartet ever since.

The simplicity — which is also so difficult — of simply playing a scale or equilibrating sounds, sound combinations and proportions for a long time on the edge of audibility and almost motionless with maximum concentration is the essence of this music.

We have been artistically and amicably connected to Jürg Frey for a long time, his music accompanies us on all our adventures as a string quartet and is always there when we need it. (Quatuor Bozzini)
