Harold Schellinx - Ultra
Wonderful book – IN DUTCH – about the musical current coined as Ultra, a uniquely Dutch phenomenon, originating in Amsterdam in the years 1978-1983. The Ultra Moderns or Ultra in short is vernacular for a series of concerts staged in the youth club Oktopus from September 1980 to April 1981. This brand of ‘post-punk experimental pop’ gained attention far beyond the Dutch scene, catapulting bands like Minny Pops, The Young Lions, Mekanik Kommando and Nasmak to fame. The author Harold Schellinx, band member of The Young Lions and editor of music mag Vinyl was once part of this frenetic movement. In his own words, he recounts his odyssee around stages and venues of Amsterdam, London and Brussels in the early eighties. Featuring interviews, lyrics and photos, this is a must-have book for anyone who has any recollection of this (glorious) time. Complete with discography and list of names.
