Various Authors - X-Screen: Filmische Installationen und Aktionen der Sechziger- und Siebzigerjahre
Exhibition catalogue (in German only !) from the 2003 exhibition in the MUMOK, Vienna. This publication gives an overview of installations and performances (actions) from the sixties and seventies influenced by and executed in the medium of film. The advent of new communication technologies and the increasing influence of film and television opened up new horizons for artistic experiments. Through the transformation of the traditional projection device in the cinema a new understanding of the cinematic image and its viewer emerged. In an ambitious retrospective the works of 36 Austrian and international avant-garde artists (and filmmakers) are highlighted and discussed, such as the collaborations of Peter Weibel and Valie Export, the famous actions of Kurt Kren, an old »Apropos Film« with Dietmar Schönherr, Bruce Naumans “Rotating Glass Walls”, Michael Snows “Two Sides to Every Story”, Andy Warhols “Lupe” and Anthony McCalls “Line Describing a Cone”.
