Beatriz Ferreyra - Untitled

Argentinian composer born in 1937, Beatriz Ferreyra studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, Edgardo Canton, Earle Brown and Gyorgy Ligeti in Germany. In 1963 she took a position in the research department of the Office de Radiodiffusion Television Francaise (ORTF). She made a name with the incredible work of making all sound examples for the Pierre Schaeffer’s ‘Solfege de l’Objet Sonore. Schaeffer founded the Groupe de Recherches Musicales was founded in 1958.
She also worked with Bernard Baschet and his Structures Sonores in 1970.
But above all, she composed an impressive number of electro-acoustic pieces from the 1960s up till now.
Ferreyra’s work is an example of an adventurous approach to electro-acoustic composition: it was also essentially scientific, but it endeavored to raise more questions than answers, to liberate the sounds in order not to destroy music but to completely transform it. The works on this CD are absolutely mind-blowing. We hear densely layered string parts in the first piece, apocalyptic, dark and ultra-dimensional soundscapes, hard-hitting noise explosions in other tracks.
