Various Artists - Revolutions Per Minute (The Art Record)

A two-record album of 21 original sound works by artists who exhibited at the Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York.
Each gallery artist was asked to record or provide a 3-5 minute segment for Jeff Gordon’s Greene Street Recording Studio. No further directions were given, and the soundworks are an amazing mix.
The album was the idea of Jeff Gordon, a music writer-producer who has written songs for Joan Baez and is a partner in the Greene Street Recording Studio in SoHo. Wanting to “bridge the gap” between the visual and the aural, he approached the dealer Ronald Feldman with a proposal for a record with which visual artists could experiment with sound. It was produced in 1981/1982.
With Vincenzo Agnetti, Eleanor Antin, Ida Applebroog, Conrad Atkinson, Joseph Beuys, Chris Burden, Douglas Davis, Jud Fine, Terry Fox, R. Buckminster Fuller, Helen Mayer Harrison & Newton Harrison, Margaret Harrison, Piotr Kowalski & William Burroughs, Les Levine, Edwin Schlossberg, Thomas Shannon, Todd Siler, SITE, Komar & Melamid, David Smyth, Hannah Wilke.

Ronald Feldman founded the gallery with his wife, Frayda Feldman, in 1971 on East 74th Street. In 1982, the gallery moved to SoHo, establishing an early beachhead in Lower Manhattan that seemed to suit an institution that broke boundaries and championed a wide range of risk-taking artists and their (often political) works.
