A disrespectful but successful experiment: an incomplete bittorrent download of David Cronenberg’s filmic adaption of William S. Burroughs’ “Naked Lunch”, [ab]using bittorrent as an automatic video cut-up machine! The resulting video cut-up is not only closer to the poetics of Burroughs’ novel, but vastly superior to Cronenberg’s corny adaption in every aspect. Bittorrent internally chops files into small chunks of data to be downloaded in randomized order. If a download remains incomplete, the file contents remain shuffled and mixed-up, fully equivalent to the cut-up method used by William S. Burroughs for writing “Naked Lunch”. The result: a kind of morphing, and an alienating interference in the original film. Playing time: 32 min.-__
