McSweeneys - #43

This issue (2013) is twinned with an anthology (the first-ever !) of fiction from the new nation of South Sudan, edited by Nyuol Lueth Tong. The regular issue contains four short stories, and two pieces of non-fiction. There are stories by Charles Baxter, T.C. Boyle, Catherine Lacey and Ludmilla Petrushevskaya. The non-fiction piece by Noor Elashi (who helped compile a section on the Egyptian Revolution a few issues back) deals with life in (federal) prison for the author’s father who is convicted of funding a terrorist organization. William Wheeler writes about the rebel activities in Libya that led to the overthrow of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi (Tripoli). On the two die-cut covers are four paintings by Gregory Euclide.
